It was a dark early start at 7.30am for 5 of the Woodmancote Wheelers having just received news that Chris was feeling too poorly to join the sportive crew. This was the Performance Cycles Winter Sportive No. 2 event starting from South Cerney over 45 miles and even after the punishment of The W Hill in Octobers sportive event, we wanted to return and endure another one!
The weather this time was kind to us again with no rain, however the temperature had dropped, so the winter accessories were on show (thank goodness for overshoes). We all arrived in time for registration and our energy levels were lifted when Cookie got his homemade sticky flapjack out, which got Neil to the start line in record time.
The route thankfully was less hilly as promised by the organisers as the weather and road conditions start to deteriorate. The club riders went off fast except for Neil & Ryan who were nattering at the back and slowly warming up before catching the rest of the team. The roads were rolling with some slight drags working their way through some lovely Cotswold villages towards Tetbury. A long climb out of Tetbury was probably the most challenging element at 30 miles, followed by a nice gradual downhill route back into South Cerney.
We completed the event in just over 2 hrs 50 mins with an average speed of 16 mph and the ride was enjoyed by all the team, helped by the bacon butties, cake and cups of tea to finish.
If you’re interested there will be at least a few other Woodmancote Wheelers signed up to one of these events that are running every month until March 2015. For more details do checkout the club events page.
Thumbs up to Performance Cycles and I am personally looking forward to the next ride.
