    Vive La Vuelta!
As La Vuelta draws to a close with Froomey claiming an historic grand tour double, and the sun sets on El Pistolero’s career, it’s time to review what happened in the Wheeler’s fantasy league. The racing was great…[Read more]

    • Thanks Digger! Beautifully put! I’d just like to thank my family for all their support through what’s been an extremely tough three weeks. I couldn’t have done it without them. Well done to Pete S and Digger for their podium spots and to Cookie for his fine lead out work. I’m just off to get my bike sprayed red for the next club ride! Adios!!

    • Well, I’d like to congratulate team Pedro Power, ad wish them well for the future. Clearly Doris’ Paella Munching hero’s have some work to do and we’ll take a look at the team performance. There were several positives, but we’ll review our selection policy over the winter. Thanks to the organisers for putting together another fun event, and rest…[Read more]

      • Not bad, second in my second grand tour. I’ll sit down with my support network over the coming months to work out my priorities for 2018. Will I do a Froome and aim for the Tour or be a greedy old so and so and try for all 3?
Huge congratulations to Pedro Ortega on his excellent win, richly deserved.

  • Great job to the team who organised the Newlands Park event. Was really good to see a lot of folks there and was great to be able to have a beer and food with the family. Lots of stuff went into organising the banners etc, so thanks for the team who did all that. Really appreciate it.

With the banners still out for this morning’s cheltenham…[Read more]

    • Yes, agree with this. I know there was a lot of consideration and effort that went into the day so thanks to all involved.
Thought Cheltenham Rugby Club was a great venue as well. Loved the mixture of Rugby (my previous sport) and cycling. Throw in a few beers and lots of socialising and you’ve got a winning combination….

  • Hi guys, birthday time of year again. If anyone fancies a few real ales I’m planning on going to Favourite Beers, Hewlett Road on Friday 15th September at 19.00. They have 10 different ales on tap. Afterwards we’ll head down to Wild Beer in town for more real ales!! Everyone is very welcome.

Let me know if you fancy it.

Stage 10 of La Vuelta was another thriller with the league table looking like this as the half way point nears:
    1. Pedro Power (Pete Orton) = 2734 pts
    2. mi casa es tu casa (Cookie) = 2541 pts
    3. Pedro’s Peloton of Possible…[Read more]

    • Cheers for the update Digger. Cookie back on top again after Trentin’s victory yesterday but I’m hoping to close that gap in the mountains today !

  • Hi All,
My lad has out grown his Giant Defy 5 road bike size XS 49cm (£500rrp) and therefore I am putting it up for sale. It is an aluminium frame with Shimano Claris groupset and has hardly been used and is an ideal bike for any child wanting to go road biking.

Let me now if any of the Wheelers are interested and I can provide photos or…[Read more]

  • @elliott-richmond is it possible to include an ‘@’ handle called “@all-wheelers” so that everybody gets a notification if somebody wants to send a chat message to be picked up by all?

Digger posted an update 2 years, 3 months ago

    • Not really, BuddyPress is designed to be like an internal Facebook on your own site so it works like having friend connections, the only way to make this work is to create a global group that members are automatically added to when they are created by me, I would also need to retro set the legacy members to put them in the same group, all you…[Read more]

  • Hi all,
For those who are signed up to do the Birmingham Velo on 23 September, are any of you planning on travelling up the day before to collect packs and/or staying over on the Saturday night. Also the opportunity to tie in with a little visit to the Cycle Show perhaps on the Saturday

  • Went out for a ride this evening without my Garmin. Nothing to upload to strava, no idea of speed, nothing other than a simple bike ride… anyone else ever do that? Being psychologically minded, I’m interested in the positive and negative benefits of strava for motivation… and just wondered if anyone else has experimented with ditching the…[Read more]

    • I have various activity profiles on my Garmin, so if I just want to ride I choose the profile with minimum data, i.e. time of day. I still like to record all rides so that I can track progress.

  • Cheltenham will host the finish of the penultimate stage of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain this September, as the world’s top professional cyclists race through the Cotswolds to arrive in the historic spa town on Saturday 9 September.
Stage Seven of Britain’s premier road cycling event will start in Hemel Hempstead, crossing Buckinghamshire and…[Read more]

    • This is great news; perhaps we could organise a ride out east and then follow the route to Cheltenham after the race passes through. Or even better head to Cheltenham and drinks beers whilst watching the finish!

The following day stage 8 starts in Worcester and heads through Pershore and then out to the Malverns, perhaps if the timing works we…[Read more]

  • any advice on a cheap but good fold-away waterproof? Mine is essentially a cheap plastic one that does not breathe so I boil in the bag

    • Unfortunately cheap does not equal good. Only the most expensive jackets from likes of Gore are breathable. I have one that cost over £100 a few years ago, so over time the value works out ok.

You may get more use out of a softshell jacket.

  • Anyone fancy “Break the Cycle”?
Bristol Rugby are sponsoring this Charity cycle event on 18 June. There are short, medium and long routes out from Ashton Court over the bridge and into S Wales. I’ve entered the 65 miler and I was wondering if anyone fancies making a Wheelers outing of it? Let me know.

  • I have just acquired two small (will fit nicely into a cycle jersey back pocket) walkie talkies and would like to give them to the club to maybe use for the leader and sweeper. They come with a headset and ear piece (not quite Team Sky standard) that works on neck vibrations and I think maybe they can be voice activated as well ( might need a…[Read more]

    • Also if we feel we are not working hard enough it will be easier to tell the leader to up the speed………………………

    • If nothing else they will provide a bit of fun! There is no harm in giving them a go, so long as they do not cause any hearing or safety issues for those using them.
